We are not programmers. Radio Jaba was designed by two students, one from the interface design domain, the other an audio recorder/music producer. We developed until the edge of our domains (there are the screenshots!) but we won´t go any further, because we neither have knowledge to do it nor the money to pay a programmer.

Sure you can.

if you are just a curious, help us by spreading the word. Think about the questions we propose, discuss with your friends, hear more creative commons music, edit open source news information.
if you are a musician you should get ready for the future. Even if Radio Jaba stays as a conceptware we are sure that something similar will end up in the mainstream. Whatever it is, we want it to be free, to be copyleft not proprietary. Upload your music, put CC tags on your site, distribute it through the channels that already exists
if you're a open source programmer, then just talk to us. Talk o the iRate guys, email the old GnomoRadio list to re awaken them. Contact Indy team to convince them to go open-source. We do not need another music fetcher, we need just one. And we want to help this one.
if you are anything else and are open-minded, join us. We believe that only when multiple disciplines gather around one project it really launches to mainstream (see the firefox visual identity redesign for example)
If you work for a big software/recording company, just let us know you saw us. No, we don´t think you are evil capitalistic Antichrists, in fact we would love to discuss our ideas about the future of music with anyone who bother hearing. By the way, do you have internships? :)

Can I use the stuff in your site?

Probably. The ideas on this site are not our property, but neither yours. Ideas cannot be patented, and this website is a way to remember anyone who comes out with similar things that we also had those ideas by our own. The screenshots, text and interface are copyrighted in a Attribution-NoDerivs 2.0 (Brazil). This means that if you can copy, distribute, even modify, but only if you don't use it for commercial purposes.

In a few words, want to do anything about it? We´ll love if you do, but we want to be part of it!

Radio Jaba was a pet project of two students: interface designer Alexandre Van de Sande and Music Producer Pedro Borges. It was started in 2004 when we felt that alternative music needed a free distributing channel.

About the same time many others were tinkering with the same problems and the emergence of Podcasting showed us that some things we only thought possible through massive computer algorithms, like filtering the gigantic amount of online music, was done thanks to the work of thousands of volunteers, who contributed with time and hosting space. A valuable lesson indeed.

Pedro Borges is now a prominent podcaster in Brazil, and set up a site to help others spread the word. Alexandre, besides helping designing that site, still tinkers about media interfaces, as you may see in the rest of this site.
